Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef or lost by accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past, and they usually teem with marine life. More than 70 shipwrecks lie off the Fort Lauderdale coast, many a short boat ride from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course teaches you to explore them while following responsible wreck diving practices.
What you'll learn
- Researching and planning wreck dives
- Assessing wreck hazards and staying safe around structures
- Surveying and mapping a wreck
- Using a line or reel for navigation
- Responsible wreck diving and protecting historic sites
Prerequisites
- PADI (Junior) Adventure Diver certification or higher
- Minimum age 15

Living coral reefs start right off the sand, and wrecks like the historic SS Copenhagen are close by, so you train in real South Florida conditions with an experienced PADI Instructor.
